First steps for health care assistants
First steps for health care assistants (HCAs) is an online programme that supports new HCAs to learn in your own time, at your own pace, the most important factors that will get you started in your health care career.
A strong foundation
We believe that all HCAs should have a strong foundation from which to practice. First steps teaches the key principles underpinning all your work, to help to carry out your new role in your own workplace to the best of your ability.
This includes helping you to:
- communicate in an honest, positive and appropriate manner
- understand how to respect consent and confidentiality in everything you do
- carry out observations safely and keep appropriate records of your work
- accept accountability for your work.
Take the course
It's easy to work through the programme in your own time and at your own pace. You’ll find a wide range of scenarios, stories, diagrams and other resources along the way to help you boost your understanding of the different topics.
